Sometimes, our adventures take us to places where medical help is not easily accessible. Gaining first aid skills ensures you can confidently identify, assess, and manage injury and illness wherever your travels take you.
Topics in the workshop will include scene safety, patient assessment, emergency communication, and evacuation decisions. Participants will also learn about bleeding control, wound care/management, splinting, and other common medical conditions.
This 6-hour workshop has been designed for the outdoor recreation individual who wants to be prepared and is open to anyone in the Ames community. This workshop will NOT include a WFA certification; the scope and, therefore, the cost is less than for WFA. The majority of the workshop will be hands on, practicing the skills.
